Oh Hay, 2012!

Happy 2012, everyone! I truly hope you had a wonderful holiday and new year with your loved ones. I sure did!

2011 was hands down the best year of my life. Not only did I spend a great amount of time with my family and friends, but I married the man of my dreams, we got our first place together, and went on a trip of a lifetime.

The highlights of our year include:

Ringing in 2011 aka “Our Wedding Year” with the best of friends in Astoria.

My mother and bridal party threw me a bridal shower in April. I thought I was going to my MIL’s surprise birthday party, so you can only imagine MY surprise. It was a day I’ll never forget.

In May, my bridal party threw me an epic bachelorette party on the Norwegian Gem cruise ship. My best fried who lives in London flew in for the party as a surprise to me. When she tapped me on the shoulder on the deck of the boat I literally almost had a heart attack. Thinking about that day still fills my heart with joy.

At the end of May (talk about waiting until the last minute!) we finally found our dream apartment. We searched, and searched, and searched and finally found the place we knew was perfect for us.

Oh, June 18th. The best day of my life. The day I became Mrs. John Dickerson.

We went on a dream honeymoon to Hawaii. We spent time on Oahu, Maui and Kauai. I wish we were back there right now!

In August I started this blog! It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, but never had the gumption to start. There are days when I still question what the heck I’m doing, and the internal battle of “but I have nothing important to say!” happens on a daily basis, but I’m glad I finally went through with it.

December marked our first Christmas together and it was amazing. I didn’t realize it would be so different now that we were living together and married, but it really was. Different in a great way.

So there ya have it, our 2011 in review. I have to say, the last few months have been really amazing, so I can’t help but think 2012 is going to top this past year.

Yea, I said it. Bring it, 2012!

Thankfully Friday

Happy Friday, everyone!

I am so thankful it’s Friday. After the stressful two weeks John and I have had, we definitely need some down time.

You know what else I’m thankful for? Making some new friends in the blogging world. I’ve only been doing this since the end of August, and I already have found some awesome ladies on here that I love chatting with via blog comments.

One of these ladies gave me a great compliment today, by passing along “The Versatile Blogger Award” to me! Gee whiz…thanks girl! Brandi at His Shabby and Her Chic has a great online “voice,” and blogs about her life with her main man and two puppies. If you’re looking for tips on how to clean, organize or decorate your home, you found your girl.  Go check her out!!!

Okay, let’s bring this post back to moi!  I’m still astonished people actually read my blog, so this pat on the back made me feel great.

A big part of receiving this title is passing it along to another blogger or bloggers that you think are awesome and are doing a great job. Immediately I knew that I wanted to give this award to Britt, who I just think is a great person. Not only her her little baby ADORABLE, but Britt once had a mullet and on occasion she dresses like a pilgrim. AKA she’s awesome. Definitely check her blog out.

The second part of the award is to share seven things about yourself, which should be pretty easy since all I ever do on here is talk about myself. So here we go:

  1. I’m left handed.
  2. I went to Ithaca College and studied Journalism. And no, it’s not where Road Trip was filmed, despite what you may have heard. But the movie was based on my school.
  3. I was once on a game show. I’ll share more details on that at another time.
  4. I’m a theatre junkie. Not pursuing an acting career is my only regret in life.
  5. I’m the aunt to three boys and 2 girls (plus one niece that will be joining us in February)!
  6. I LOVE to read. I love historical fiction, sci-fi and post-apocalyptic stories the most. Don’t you dare try to make me read chick-lit.
  7.  I twirl my hair subconsciously. When I was in 9th grade, a girl named Carla threatened to beat me up because she didn’t like that I twirled my hair. The only reason she didn’t is because a boy threw a pencil at her while she was yelling at me and it distracted her long enough for me to run for my life. True story.

Aren’t you so excited to know those thrilling factoids?!

Have a fantastic Friday and a relaxing weekend!

Weekend Recap

We sure were busy this weekend!

For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you know all about this. For those who don’t follow me, this weekend John and I had a wedding in Annapolis, Maryland for one of my close friends/coworkers. We spent Friday getting our stuff together and packing, then hit the road bright and early Saturday morning. Armed with coffee and bagels in hand, it took us roughly 5 hours to get to our hotel (not going to lie, I was getting antsy).

Leslie and Nick were married on Nick’s aunt and uncle’s property. The shuttle picked us up at our hotel and we were escorted over the Bay Bridge to their house. We pulled off the main road and went down a winding dirt road to their home.

Can I just say…wow. It was a gorgeous house on amazingly big property overlooking the Chesapeake Bay. Leslie and Nick said their personal and emotional vows while the sun was setting over the water. I of course was tearing up, which is funny since I pretty much laughed throughout my own ceremony.

After their vows, we ate, drank and danced the night away under a beautiful white tent on the property. It was really lovely, and I know Nick and Leslie are going to have a very long, loving life together.

On Sunday after a ridiculously long drive home (we hit INSANE traffic as soon as we reached Brooklyn), John and I went for dinner at my sister’s house. She just gutted her kitchen and had us all over to christen the place. Next time I’m there, I’ll take some pictures to share. The kitchen/dining room is GORGEOUS and you guys will love it. Blue walls, chocolate-brown floors and cabinets plus amazing tan/brown/gold granite counter-tops. Talk about swoon-worthy. The before-and-after’s with her house are incredible, maybe that will be a post coming soon…

I have more pictures from the wedding on my actual camera (which died during their first dance…awesome planning, Ashley!) so I will update this post later today!!

How was your weekend? Do anything fun? Did you go to any weddings? I’d love to hear about it!!

Football Sunday

A couple week’s ago (yea, I’m late on this post) John and I hosted Football Sunday. We’re New Yorkers, so the majority of our friends are Jets fans. I grew up a Jets fan and they are [usually] the team I root for. John on the other hand is randomly a Raiders fan (for no other reason than they were the “bad boys of football” when he was a kid). Since the Jets played the Raiders, we obviously wanted to host a little get-together.

I decided to make a few recipes I found on pinterest (follow me!) Can I just say how much I LOVE pinterest? I use it mostly for recipes, but I love to pin DIY and “dream home” pictures for future inspiration.

So last week I made some of my usual recipes (that I’ll share sometime soon) but I figured I’d focus this post on the two recipes I found from Pinterest:

The first was the Bloomin’ Pizza Bread from The Girl Who Ate Everything. First off, do you all read her blog? She’s awesome. I only wish that some day I have half of her cooking talent. Anyway, since my cooking talent is pretty limited, I thought that bread was right up my alley.

Cheese and pepperoni all ready

Prepped with seasonings and parm cheese

Can you say DELISH?! Well, after it was all cooked up, it looked a little like heaven…

Mmmm cheese-y, garlic-y goodness

**Just a sidenote if you make this, I added WAY more garlic than the original recipe calls for. We like our meals with a ton of garlic and I think this is a case where garlic can only add to the flavor**

The second pinterest recipe I made was from Food & Wine. I saw this recipe and thought it would go great as a side to the ribs we were making. And boy oh boy was I right! Unfortunately, I don’t have many pictures. I took one right as we were putting the mini macs into the oven, and then got completely distracted by the game and our guests.

Mini Mac n Cheese

They looked great even before they were cooked, though! The end product was great, even had a few of my girlfriends compliment me on how “domesticated” I’ve become. Which may have been a joke, but hey…I’ll take it!

**I have another awesome Football Sunday recipe to share soon…so stay tuned!!**
